Artists are invited to perform in our theaters prior to film screenings as guests arrive. We are seeking local musicians (soloists, duos and/or bands) to perform in our theaters as guests arrive prior to film screenings. We are also seeking visual artists whose work could be displayed as a digital art slideshow on the big screen prior to a film.

We appreciate nimble and adaptable acts, able to work in intimate spaces with limited staging areas, and acts that can operate acoustically or with minimal technical needs. Artists will be compensated for their performances, and most artists will be invited to perform multiple sets.

Video artists and filmmakers are invited to submit proposals for a video installation during the festival.

The proposal seeks a video art piece, informed and adapted from existing media produced in Iowa City and/or available in regional public archives. The piece is intended to be inspired by the festival’s guiding theme of “adaptation”.

This commissioned piece should be no less than ten minutes and no more than one hour and will serve as the seed from which a perpetual annual art project will be born. The film will be presented on a lopp during the festival as a free experiential immersive video installation, open to the public.
